Sage 50 (formerly Simply Accounting) Same great product only better!
Sage has recently announced that one of my favorite accounting software products has undergone a name change. What was once known as Bedford back in the 80’s and then released as Simply Accounting in the 90’s is now going to be known as Sage 50 effective October 2012. I have watched this product develop and change over the years to be the great accounting software product that it is today. Each fall as a Gold Certified Sage 50 partner, I receive the early release of the product before all of the users in the community. It is always enlightening to see where Sage has used their development dollars and which enhancements they have focused on and implemented. I have the opportunity to test and familiarize myself with the enhancements they have made to the software and have yet to be disappointed. As a Gold Certified Sage 50 partner I am required to know this product thoroughly and each year I recertify with Sage to maintain this status.
Many of the staff and partners here at Millards would also agree with me that Sage 50 is a favorite. What the accountants both in Millards and at our clients like about Sage 50 is the ability to drill down and see the original entry. They also like the ability to backdate reports to verify year end balances, and most importantly the trail of journal numbering created in all modules of the software. Even when a client can’t explain the detail in an account we are able to retrace the transactions to get to the information that we require to complete the engagement for our clients.
What our clients like about Sage 50 is the critical information it provides to help clients run their business and make critical decisions based on actionable data. This information is vital to the running of their business. Cash flow would be an important part of that and with Sage 50 that information is available with the click of mouse. Cash balances in banks and investments, who owes them money and who they owe money to are some of the most often examined information coming from Sage 50. This is all available in a quick and useful format to help make business decisions today. They may also require information in different areas, such as inventory or project costing and these details are available with the endless reports that can be generated within the software. This is all valuable information that all business owners need and want on a daily basis to stay on top of running their successful businesses.
Whatever software our clients use my role here at Millards is to help them become more efficient, and use their software to run their business effectively. When I meet with a client we discuss their current processes and many times they are already efficient and may just need minor support. But when more help is needed to streamline or improve processes, I am here to help with that as well. In today’s fast paced technical world many clients want to show their customers that they too are staying current. This may include emailing customer invoices, sending payments to vendors and employees through EFT or it could be something that is a standard requirement in the industry they are operating in.
Although Sage 50 software is “generic” software that can be purchased at retailers as well as online directly from Sage, it is far from that. During my many years here at Millards I have successfully implemented and supported Sage 50 in a wide range of industries including transportation, service, construction, retail, not for profit, and many more. This product is able to adapt too many industries and still give the same valuable information for any business owner to stay on top of their business plan.
