Each year for the past eight years, the buildings of Harmony Square have echoed with emotional and impassioned pleas. Nova Vita staff, corporate sponsors, first responders, politicians and clients have all made their case for the importance and support of Brantford and Brant County’s only women’s and children’s shelter for homeless and abused women.

Natasha Dobler
Executive Director
Nova Vita

Natasha Dobler took over as the Executive Director of Nova Vita in January of 2017. Her message to the attentive crowd was bold but simple.

“All of you here today are saying that domestic violence is never okay.”

Over 150 like-minded community members joined Nova Vita in Harmony Square on Sunday June 3rd for the 8th Annual Heels to Heal Walk. Together, they raised over $21,0000 to support the women, men, non-binary individuals and children that the organization serves every year.

“Last year we served 4,560 people on our crisis and support line. We had 272 women and children call Nova Vita their home.”

Dobler worked in a women’s shelter in the Hamilton area for over 15 years before coming to Nova Vita.

“I was drawn to Nova Vita because of its reputation and innovation. Not only does Nova Vita provide a continuum of services and programs for women and children experiencing violence, abuse and homelessness, it also has rehabilitation programs for perpetrators of violence.”

Heels to Heal is Nova Vita’s largest event of the year, both in raising awareness and financial support. The family friendly event featured games, activities, face painting and the Heels To Heal Walk around the downtown core lead by Brantford Pipe & Drums. Teams competed in individual and group categories to fundraise for Nova Vita.

A crowd favourite and the top team fundraiser for the second year in a row was the The Bearded Villains. Watch the video above to see all the winners!
