Millards has joined with Brant County SPCA to raise funds for National Cupcake Day.

National Cupcake Day is a unique Canadian event that supports local shelters, SPCAs, and Humane Societies. Participating organizations are encouraged to bake treats and then invite co-workers, friends and family to buy the baked goods in exchange for a donation to their local SPCA or Humane Society.

Shelley Keats along with a dedicated group of volunteer bakers helped drive the campaign for Millards.

“We’re thrilled to have raised $2,791 in our first year. Millards is comprised of an incredible team of caring and community minded people and so it wasn’t hard to get staff support once they knew it was for animals in need.”

Robin Kuchma is the Executive Director leading the team at the Brant County SPCA. She says that that National Cupcake Day is an essential fundraiser for the local agency.

“Each year thousands of abused, abandoned and neglected animals across Canada are rescued by SPCAs and Humane Societies. The funds raised for National Cupcake Day have a significant impact on the shelters, clinics and animal cruelty inspectors across Canada. These critical funds ensure that our life-saving work continues.”

Kuchma is hopeful that the 2017 numbers will set a new record for the successful fundraiser and awareness building campaign.

“In 2016, animal lovers across Canada raised over $615,000 in support of their favourite societies. The campaign has raised $1.85 million to date.”

Keats believes that the much needed funds make a big difference both Nationally and right here in Brantford/Brant.

“Animal welfare is an important cause and we’re proud of the work done by Brant County SPCA to raise critically-needed funds for animals that are abused, abandoned, neglected or no longer wanted.”

LaylaThe cheque presentation at Millards featured the team of volunteer bakers along with a special guest. Layla, a German Shepherd cross made a visit to Millards to help accept the donation. Layla arrived at the SPCA this week and was one of the many animals at the Brant County SPCA eager to find a loving home. Layla made an impact on the group and may have already found a home with a Millards’ team member.

“We’re proud of our staff and we’re looking forward to doing it all again next year. We’re also eager to share the message and motivate other area companies and organizations to embrace National Cupcake Day in 2018. It’s easy to do and it’s a win-win for our community.”

As the website promoting the event says, “it’s a super fun and easy way to “bake a difference” for the animals in your community who need you most.”

The campaign video features a catchy tune, dancing cupcakes and four-legged friends, all combined to rally support for the cause in a fun and creative way.
