Bowl for Kids Sake 2017 is touted as the “BIGGEST FUN’DRAISER OF THE YEAR” for Big Brothers Big Sisters Grand Erie. The 2017 fundraiser themed “Under The Bigtop,” took place over 2 weekends in March and April at Echo Bowl in Brantford and White Horse Lanes in Simcoe.
Shelley Keats coordinated a team of bowlers from Millards comprised of staff, spouses and children. The enthusiastic group came together to support a cause that they hold dear.
“Big Brothers Big Sisters Grand Erie makes a real difference for children and youth in our community and it was our pleasure to Bowl for Kids Sake.”
Keats is proud of the Millards team.
“It was a fun day! There were a lot of gutter balls but we had fun while helping a wonderful cause. We were the largest group with 22 participants bowling and we raised the highest amount of money two years in a row.”
Millards raised a total of $3,785 this year, beating their 2016 donation of $3,725.
Renee VanderHarst, Resource Development Coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters Grand Erie says that community support is vital to their program.
“We would not be able to serve 370+ local youth and support our amazing volunteers if it weren’t for our community partners and volunteers.”
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Grand Erie has been creating friendships in the Haldimand-Norfolk area since 1975. They started out matching Big Brothers with Little Brothers and have grown to include a variety of different programs that serve both boys and girls.
“We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive to be on the leading edge of the Big Brothers Big Sisters movement in Canada.”
As Canada’s leading child and youth mentoring charity, Big Brothers Big Sisters facilitates life-changing relationships that inspire and empower children and youth to reach their potential, both as individuals and citizens.
VanderHarst hopes to grow the annual event and encourage new corporate partners to rally teams.
“Volunteering, fundraising, and participating in Bowl For Kids Sake is a great way to promote civic engagement, provides a fun team-building experience, and fosters a happier and more productive workplace.“
The Bowl For Kids Sake campaign wraps up at the end of June, as several local elementary schools are running events before the end of the school year.
All of the money raised supports the Grand Erie chapter of Big Brothers Big Sisters and VanderHarst wants donors and those helping to raise funds to understand the value of their donations.
“Every dollar raised local stays local to support children and youth in Brant, Brantford, Haldimand, Norfolk, Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the New Credit. We accomplish incredible things in this community thanks to our generous corporate partners and the outstanding volunteers that make our programs possible”
